FaulknerBrowns were invited to develop a master plan for a key 200 acre site on the bank of River Tyne. The initial appraisal of the scheme identified the importance of creating a rich variety of visitor experiences in a safe environment. Our master plan created a high quality urban development with flexibility to accommodate market changes for the revitalisation of the site and the surrounding area, creating a destination in which people live and work, and for tourists to visit.
A key part of the scheme, The Royal Quays Factory Outlet Centre, located close to the ferry terminal which provides direct links to Norway, is ideally positioned to take advantage of both local visitors and tourists who regularly cross the North Sea to take advantage of the 'budget shopping experience'. With a maritime theme, a smart and attractive shopping village of single storey, cedar-clad units, harmonised by white masts and canopies, was created.
