Royal Quays is a 200 acre mixed- use development on Tyneside, masterplanned by FaulknerBrowns. The first phase completed in 1993 was the £7.5m waterpark which is a central element of the masterplan and is the only commercially funded and operated water facility of its type in the UK.
The water park is an enclosed area of 4000sqm of aquatic fun. There are 7 water rides varying from 'white knuckle' speed rides to more leisurely family rides all starting from a 22m high tower. There is also a wave pool and a lazy river for those wanting a more relaxing time. Safe fun for small children is provided in a children's area with miniature slides and games.
The waterpark has operated successfully for ten years and contributed to the on-going regeneration of the region.
