When it opened in 1925 Newcastle University Students Union provided for student needs: hot baths indoor toilets and hot food.
FaulknerBrowns Architects were commissioned by the university whose ambition was to create a new students union. Perhaps more difficult to balance in terms of a design approach, was the universities ambition to create a modern benchmark facility within a sensitive grade 2 listed iconic historic building.
Now, perhaps more than ever, competition for students both nationally and internationally is fiercer than it has ever been. It is essential, therefore that a university is able to provide excellent social, sporting, residential as well as academic and research accommodation, the refurbished students union helps to achieve this.
