FaulknerBrowns were commissioned by UK Land Estates to develop a comprehensive masterplan to create a commercial heart in an existing urban village within the Gateshead Quays area.
Point 5 is the first phase of this redevelopment. However when the design team first inspected the site, the existing building was severely derelict as it had been unoccupied for over 20 years. It had also suffered from extensive fire damage which included the almost total collapse of the roof structure.
The completed new building creates a flexible workplace by incorporating a new stair and core accommodation into the existing building fabric. Before the current tenant, CCP Games, moved into the building it was used as a temporary gallery space for a local artist, illustrating the buildings flexibility.
