Since the inception of the practice, FaulknerBrowns has had a continuous workload in the schools sector. During the 1990s, this was primarily in the independent sector with successful projects at St Paul's Girls' School, London; Cheltenham Ladies College and the Royal Grammar School, Newcastle upon Tyne.
We participated in the early PFI schools programme with limited success but realised, when the BSF programme was launched in 2005, that the scale and speed of these projects would require a considerable resource which would overwhelm other work in the office. To meet this challenge, we formed a collaborative partnership with GHM Rock Townsend - called Mentor - which has successfully won projects at Leeds, Tameside and St. Helens has established a reputation for innovative school design.
Following the cancellation of the BSF programme, Mentor has designed a low-cost school solution which has been developed with a contractor to bid for academy projects. Our first success was at Lincoln, winning two academies at Priory Ruskin and Holbeach
