The International Sports Academy in The Hague is part of a larger sports campus which includes elite and community sports facilities. The Academy promotes both learning and sporting excellence to create a unique environment in which students can learn, train and develop.
This £65m facility for post 16 students was won in an international competition and successfully assimilates a large 50,000sqm facility into the sensitive landscape context of the listed Zuiderpark. The building compromises of a precast concrete plinth and ‘in motion’ ribbon of metallic shingles separated by structural glazing.
The design includes a range of learning and seminar spaces, and lecture, media, technology and open learning spaces, arranged around an external entrance courtyard. Sporting facilities include a number of multi-use multi-court sports halls and a 3,500 capacity indoor arena.
