Keelman’s Way School is a special school for 130 children aged between 2 and 19 years with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), severe learning difficulties (SLD), and autistic spectrum conditions (ASC).
The design responds to its urban and social contexts creating public and private blocks. A formal masonry two storey block to Victoria Road to the south contrasts with a more informal class base block to the north which is fluid, glazed and colourful.
The two blocks are connected by an internal street which contains the foyer, and social and dining spaces for both children and the community. Pods within the street house flexible specialist learning spaces which display and celebrate the creative work of the school.
