Horsham District Council appointed FaulknerBrowns Architects to deliver their ambitious plan to create a significant public leisure facility which would enhance and compliment Horsham Park which is a fine mature Victorian park.
The public chose the name Pavilions in the Park, and this name accurately reflects the coupled, vaulted form used to house the various facilities. The rhythm of the vaults reduces the apparent scale of the buildings and together they provide an edge to Horsham Park. A winter garden which bisects the facility links all of its functions and is home to a cafe and the building's entrance which acts as a gateway from the park to the town centre. Large initial visitor numbers illustrate the affinity that the public feels for their facility, suggesting that the Council's ambitions have been delivered.
