The National Cycling Centre in Manchester was developed as part of the city's bid to host the 2000 Olympic Games.
Rarely has a venue spawned and encouraged a specific sport as much as Manchester's Velodrome has achieved. The sport of indoor cycling has exploded on to the sporting scene in the UK and the Great Britain team has triumphed at the last two Olympic Games and World Cycling Championships. The velodrome is home to Team GB but available to users of all abilities.
Far-sighted thinking combined with good management and design has nurtured Britain's cyclists to their premier position in the world using the velodrome as their main training venue.
