Rutherford Street planning application approved

Rutherford Street Prs Newcastle City Centre Context Lh

Planning permission has been granted for our Rutherford Street regeneration scheme which challenges the existing pattern of city centre housing development in Newcastle upon Tyne.

The scheme will create a landmark building at a key gateway to the city, regenerating an area of brownfield land adjacent to the 24 acre Science Central development.

The scheme will create 162 residential apartments for private rent. The high quality, estate managed accommodation will help to retain top professionals in Newcastle supporting the cities ambition to develop world-leading expertise in science and emerging technologies.

The building has been designed to enhance views of the listed Printworks building from St James’ Boulevard as well as improving connectivity between the city centre and the Science Central site. Significant improvements are also proposed to the public spaces surrounding the site to create an uplifting environment for the new and existing communities.

Paul Rigby, Partner at FaulknerBrowns reacted to the news saying: “We are extraordinarily proud of what we have presented to the planning committee and the decision to approve our proposals. We have worked extremely hard to design a building of the highest quality and we believe this development will create a positive landmark for the city, representative of its ambitious and forward thinking outlook.”
